The Croatian Radiotelevision (HRT) Children’s Choir

The Croatian Radiotelevision (HRT) Children’s Choir was reestablished in November 2022.

In December of the same year it already had its first performances at the recording session for a program with the HRT Tamburitza Orchestra and at the HRT Choir and Jazz Orchestra Christmas concert at Lauba. During its first season it appeared in a number of the Croatian Radio and Television programs and in the HRT Choir’s Sfumato  series. 

In July 2023, it held its first independent full-evening concert at the 63rd International Children’s Festival in Šibenik. In the 2023/2024 season, performances followed in the Vatroslav Lisinski Concert Hall in the Kanconijer  cycle of the HRT Choir and Symphony Orchestra (Benjamin Britten's War Requiem; Blagoje Bersa's opera Oganj) and in the Croatian National Theater in Zagreb as part of the Nutcracker  ballet.

The reestablishment of the HRT Children’s Choir, in addition to the HRT Symphony Orchestra, Choir, Tamburitza Orchestra and Jazz Orchestra, signifies a renewal of the tradition going back to the year 1949, when the Choir was first established at the former Zagreb RTV. Its golden age was between 1961 and 1975, under the leadership of Maestro Dinko Fio. During that time the Choir won first prizes at many international competitions, participated in concerts with the RTV Choir and Symphony Orchestra, performed at festivals, including the Dubrovnik Summer Festival, leaving behind numerous studio recordings. Its quality and achievements made it the pride of the Zagreb RTV. Even more important is the influence it had on the children who were its members. Many of them became pop stars, opera soloists and professional musicians.

The Choir is primarily a three-part a cappella choir, but depending on the program and need, several voices and instrumental accompaniment are also possible. The Artistic Director of the HRT Children’s Choir is Tomislav Fačini, and the choirmasters are Nina Cossetto and Vinko Karmelić.
